THEATRE OF VOICES
THEATRE OF VOICES will perform Stockhausen's Stimmung at the BBC Proms in August, and again in September as the opening concert in the Berliner Festspiele and at the Sacrum Profanum Festival in Cracow, Poland. The group's recent appearances include John Adams’s Grand Pianola Music with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by the composer; the creation of a new John Cage event - John Cage and the Music of Always - for the Stimmen Festival in Germany; the first performance of Pärt’s Passio with special film by Paolo Cherchi-Usai at the Adelaide Film Festival in Australia; and two concerts at the Edinburgh Festival. In October 2007 they premiered a major new work by David Lang, The Little Match Girl Passion, in New York's Carnegie Hall; David has just won the Pulitzer Prize for this work, and TOV will record it for Harmonia Mundi later in 2008. TOV is currently developing several new projects including Banchieri's madrigal-comedy "La Pazzia Senile", a program of English lutesongs and madrigals called Dowland's Day, and new works from German composer Bernd Franke and Chinese composer Liu Sola. The group’s most recent CDs are Cries of London (with Fretwork viol ensemble) and Stockhausen’s Stimmung (the Copenhagen version).
